The calendar below lists many of the major graduate student events going on in the days before classes start. In addition to the activites listed here, your department will most likely also host an orientation just for students in your school or program. For more inforamtion about departmental events, please contact your department.

iSTART@UCLA: An International Student Transition Program

iSTART@UCLA is an Orientation Program from the Dashew Center for International Students & Scholars is a comprehensive orientation program designed specifically for new international students at UCLA. The purpose of the program is to help incoming international students adjust better to their new lives in the United States as well as be aware of all of the services provided by UCLA as well as the rules and regulations that every international student studying at UCLA should know.

iSTART has multiple components which are either mandatory or highly recommended. Please see the iSTART@UCLA webpage for more information on what is included in iSTART and how to get started!

Graduate Student Equity, Inclusion & Diversity Welcome Day

The UCLA Equity, Inclusion & Diversity Graduate Welcome Day is an event for all graduate students that focuses on issues facing underrepresented students. New graduate students will have the opportunity to learn about resources, to network, and to get acquainted with the university in a supportive environment. The goal of this event is to help new graduate students make personal connections and to promote a healthy campus climate, personal well-being, and academic success. The event is free of charge and will be followed by a dinner for all registered attendees.

Please note that this event is not a replacement for the campus-wide Graduate Student Orientation. Students who attend this event should also attend the Graduate Student Orientation on September 18.

The 40th Annual Teaching Assistant Conference offers teaching panels, live classroom teaching practice, lesson planning, grading, and technology workshops.
